If you have read any of the other reviews that Muttley & Coco Pops have done, you will have possibly noticed a pattern as to where we visit within the Lake District! Rake Crag has been a walk that we have visited many many times and it is a particular favourite. Today we tackle the Angletarn Pike walk. Parking in Bridgend, the path to the base of the fells is across a couple of fields which normally would have sheep in, so a lead walk to start with. Once past those we enter a field of reads and a small beck which has a convenient entry point for a quick dip before commencing the accent up to Stony Rigg. The path is very clear and a well established bridle way which snakes off to the left and Ullswater, to the right towards Hartsop and Brothers Water. A couple of zig zags and we are on the way up and the views just begin to come with Ullswater to the North, Brothers Water and Kirkstone Pass to the South. After about three quarters of the way up we encounter about 10 minutes of a steeper path as we curl clockwise around Rake Crag and every time we do it, it feels steeper than the last time! Deer and birds of prey are often spotted wandering the fells as we take a break at Boredale Hause and take in the spectacular views we are presented with. We continued onwards in between Rake Crag and Stony Rigg before emerging near Dubhow Crag and back to the views of the Central Fells. The two peaks of Angletarn Pikes are now visible and although there are no clear paths to each summit, they are relatively easy to navigate to. Angle Tarn is a favourite among wild campers and as you will see from our 360 degree video, the views at the top are spectacular, showing a host of fells, to the North – Scotland and to the East over to the Pennines. After lunch we retraced our steps back between Stony Rigg and Rake Crag and a leisurely pace back down to the base of the fell and the car park.
